First off, let me encourage you to reply to the list instead of
just the person who answers you. Particularly if that person is
me, because I'm not near as Debian-literate as many of the folks
on the list.

Secondly, floppies are NOTORIOUS for causing problems during the
install. The floppy must be absotively posolutely in good shape;
in times past I've had to try three different floppies, which I
thought were good, before I got one that would go through the
install without coughing up blood.

Thirdly, some computers, notably laptops, need a set of
rescue/boot/drivers disks called "tecra". These disk images
should be on your CD, but if you don't have a laptop, this is
probably not the issue.

Fourthly, I'm not quite able to figure out what sequence you're
following. Nevertheless, the last error you report about being
unable to extract the drivers from the floppies I'm fairly
confident is because of a faulty floppy. Try another one and see
what happens.
