Samba and kernel 2.2.0

I have recently compiled kernel 2.2.0 and am having some samba
difficulties now.

This is the sort of thing I get with smbmount

root@penguin1:[~]# smbmount //alpha/LAAS /mnt
Password:
mount error: Invalid argument
Please look at smbmount's manual page for possible reasons

smbclient will list shares no problem, but when I try to log in, it
doesn't work.

dbroseme@penguin1:[~]$ smbclient //alpha/LAAS
Added interface ip=198.103.92.141 bcast=198.103.92.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
Password:
Domain=[SAULT] OS=[Windows NT 4.0] Server=[NT LAN Manager 4.0]
smb: \> ls

63815 blocks of size 262144. 21979 blocks available
smb: \> q

dbroseme@penguin1:[~]$ smbclient -L alpha |grep LAAS
Password:
LAAS Disk Landscape Analysis and Applications Workgroup

Any ideas? I have seen a special samba mounter for kernels 2.1.x, is
there something similar for 2.2.x?
