Really?  I couldn't find that thread.  In any case, the problem is
that there's no file libstdc++.so - I fixed this by (as root) doing
the following:
  cd /usr/lib
  ln -s libstdc++-2-libc6.0-1-2.9.0.so libstdc++.so

There will be a new libstdc++2.9-dev soon enough.
