I were not wise enough to test the new kernel from a floppy first (or was that
I let dpkg -i ... do its work without carefuly examined it ?)
It is not failing. The new kernel seems to simply replaced the previous
kernel, Although I believe that only the date in "uname -a" has been changed.
The #1 is still there.
I did not do an rdev at all.
Perhaps it is still working becuase my customization where mainly to remove
unnecessary parts (like the scsi parts) from the default kernel.
The only place that is not working after the change is the vfat module. I
believe that all the messages that I now get at the init stage are concerned
this module (although I can't verify that since these messages are scrolling
too fast). I am not suprised at all that this module is not working, since I
tried to install also msdos fs support as a module (it was not a module
before).

Today I took another look at the HOWTO's and found the mini/Kerneld, which I
will read tomorow. Perhaps I need a thourogh (debian) kernel installation
tutorial ? Is there such a thing or am I making a simple process complicated ?
