as far as i know the pcmcia modules needs info from the kernel when you are
compiling them.
i think then than you can have a couple (kernel,pcmcia)
but when you change one you have to recompile the other one
or more exactly if you recompile your kernel, you have to recompile your pcmcia
modules.

so in your place i'll go recompile the pcmcia stuff (no problem at all)

(i have a 486 DX4/100 with 3c563 modem/lan pcmcia card working just absolutely
great)

please correct me if i'm wrong.
