There is a fairly easy fix for this. You simply need to download a special
X server from S.u.S.E. They provide a 100% working server for the Diamond
Permedia 2 AGP card. Take a look at http://www.suse.com/ and follow the
link to the English site. You will need to download the correct server and
the modified config stuff. Just simply follow the instructions on the site
for what to download and for installation. 

I myself have a Diamond Permedia 2 8mb AGP card (Fire GL 1000 PRO) and I
have been using this server for quite some time and so far everything
works flawlessly.
