SCSI Hardrive Install

I'm trying to install Debian from my hardrive. Everything working fine up
until it asks me to select a source in install the kernel. It says there is
no msdos partition that has not already been mounted.

I don't understand why. I booted using the rescue disk.

I've got a 4 gig scsi hardrive. 2,000 MB are for win95, the rest will be
going to Linux. How should I divide it up? Can I leave the msdos as a
bootable primary and the linux paritions all as extended?

I am trying out Linux in order to run Apache webserver, MySQL, and PHP.
Here is how I divided it up, just guessing.

root - 300 MB
/usr - 800 MB
/var - 800 MB
swap - 65 MB
