X-Debian-Message: Spam detection

when I try and run X applications, they claim that they cannot access the
display.

I am sure they're lying to me or being deliberately uncooperative, so can
anybody tell me a way to coerce them? <g>

I have installed linux successfully with dselect and now I am trying to
install X windows.
What do I have to do to get the display to work?

Frankie
