 You might want to consider external RAID controller for that sort of
 business. These hook up to scsi-controller and show to the system
 as very large disks. 

 As for controllers Symbios/NCR 53C875/6 based cards and Mylex/
 Buslogic cards are best supported. 

 Also check the scsi drivers with the kernel.
