lprng is 100% compatible with lpr (the same features, commandline,
programs and basic configuration)

It's design and implementation is much much better

It's more documented (very good documentation)

It has more capabilities, and diagnostic aids

It's ported to virtually any Un*x system

It's a very accurate work, just see some source files...

It's also supported by magicfilter (lpr configuration tool)
