Apple II emulaton and svgalib/suid

Hmm, i installed it a month or so ago, and I could get it working.  I 
installed today, after reinstalling the system a couple of weeks ago, and I 
can't get it working.

eyryttyp2:hawk>apple2
svgalib: Cannot get I/O permissions.

and 

eyryttyp2:hawk>apple2 -vga
Warning: Forcing to standard VGA mode with some performance degradation.
Press RETURN to continue...
svgalib: Cannot get I/O permissions.


I'm pretty sure that I solved it last time just by using the -vga option.  Has 
something changed?

should I manually be changing something so that it can be suid?
