The TX chipset is the key.  I remember this exact problem being reported
on the kernel mailing list several months back.  It's odd, because not all
TX based motherboards caused this problem (mine, for example, was
fine...go figure).  So the best place to look for the solution (and I do
know that there was one), would be the kernel list archive.  Here's the

I seem to recall the problems being discussed around the beginning of this
year.  Sometime from Dec. '97 to Feb. '98.  There's a search engine at the
archive page that should help you find info.  If you're completely and
totally unsuccessful at finding any useful info from the archive, you
could try posting to the kernel list for help.  I don't remember the
address for it, though.
