System is now hosed. You should NOT have deleted those files ... all you
had to so was delete the ageing field of the shadow file or the password
field of the passwd file.
At this point, reboot the rescue disk, mount the hard disk root partition
under /mnt and create a new /mnt/etc/passwd file as follows:
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/bash
daemon:*:1:1:daemon:/usr/sbin:/bin/sh
bin:*:2:2:bin:/bin:/bin/sh
sys:*:3:3:sys:/dev:/bin/sh
Then reinstall the base-passwd package as soon as you can.
