New kernel 2.0.32 rebooting during boot up
I compiled a kernel using kernel-source-2.0.32_2.0.32-5.deb. With this
new kernel the machine reboots after the line following this line (read
from a working 2.0.30 kernel dmesg output)
hda: ST3491A, 408MB w/120kB Cache, LBA, CHS=899/15/62
It is very hard to read the next line because it goes by very quickly
just as the maching reboots. It appears to read:
hde: Probing with STATUS instead of ALTSTATUS
The "normal" line from the working 2.0.30 kernel dmesg output is:
ide0 at 0x1f0-0x1f7,0x3f6 on irq 14
I believe this is the relevant information from /var/log/kern.log:
May 9 14:29:04 ludd syslogd 1.3-3#26: restart.
May 9 14:29:09 ludd kernel: Symbol table has incorrect version number.
May 9 14:29:09 ludd kernel: Cannot find map file.
May 9 14:29:09 ludd kernel: No module symbols loaded.
How do I get this sorted out? (I believe someone else recently posed a
similar problem but I probably failed to attend to any responses at the
time.)
