HD-SelfTest

Hi again,

my root HD (it's an IBM SCSI) is capable of executing a SelfTest after
72 hours uptime. During this time the HD is 'locked' for approx. 30 secs
and can't be accessed in this period. It can't be switched off (at least
this is stated in the description). But i think this 'feature' was
included for workstations and systems running continously - so Un*x and
Linux should be able to handle this in a defined way.
Is there a supported or Linux-spezific way to let the system know about
this?
If not, any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

    Mac
