You want to use TCP/IP.  Choose a private network to use (basically
192.168.<favourite number>.xxx) and assign numbers to your machines.
I could have used 192.168.42.1, 192.168.42.2 and 192.168.42.3.  Edit
/etc/init.d/network on Linux, and use the Network control panel under
Win95 to assign the address manually.  Bind Microsoft Networking to
TCP/IP.

Install Samba on Linux.

You should be able to ping your systems from each other, e.g. `ping
192.168.42.2' to see if the network is going.
