Not a kernel issue. The kernel supports ATAPI (e/ide) devices- so if the drive reads
it, it works.

the debian 2.0.33 kernel has the joilet patches, but they aren't in the standard
2.0.xx series kernels yet, afaik.

cdrecord supports it- I'm currently using cdrecoed 1.6a7 with a HP 7110i atapi cd-rw
drive just fine. It supports cd-r[w] media just fine.
