A lot of people are against it, for reasons easy to understand.
OTOH, the list does have a lot of traffic.
Wouldn't it be possible to divide it into something like
configuration (problems with install and configuration)
advocacy (content of packages, which to use, when is the new
distribution to be released, etc)
That does not include hardware, but AFAIK hardware is not on-topic in
debian-user ;-)
