The cable should be cheap.  Here's how I would do it with your current
setup (assuming sb is acting like your secondary ide slot):

1) <alt><f2> to get a prompt
2) dmesg | more # find the cd
3) mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /cdrom # From memory, possible typo
    # the hdc is what you are looking for, could be hdd
4) <alt><f1> to get to the install menu again
