Re: Where should I install non debian software?
I've just installed debian on my system. I used to use redhat, but the
upgrades were anoying and I saw debian as more stable and better supported
by a community of knowledgable people.
Anyway, on redhat I installed wine myself.
Not everything you install seems to go so smoothly, but for wine I
downloaded the latest source distribution, untared it in the /usr/src
directory and then read the INSTALL text.
>From memory, I typed, configure, make and make install. It worked and
installed it in the /usr/local directory, which doesn't upset you
debian/redhat distribution.
So it is easy, but please do read the instructions carefully.
