The Compaq should use a Compaq Netelligent 10/100 TX PCI UTP network
adapter.

It is supported by a beta driver written by James Banks at Caldera.

     ftp://ftp.caldera.com/pub/stuff/tlan-0.29.tar.gz

I have downloaded it and install/load it as a module.

$ insmod tlan

Works!
