Try biglinux instead.  By default, Debian kernels are built as such
ones and chos don't detect it.

Here is an example from my chos.conf (also version 0.8):

  big_linux "Debian Linux" {
          image=/vmlinuz
          cmdline=ro
          color=white
  }
