Hi.

What kernel are you trying to compile?
If 2.0.29  - then while "make menuconfig"
under SCSI / Low-level drivers you will see 
"Adaptec AHA274X/284X/294X support"

If the latest - 2.0.32, then it is under 
"Adaptec AIC7xxx support" because 2940 uses AIC7880 chip.
