Re: "who" is guilty - "named" is not!!!

Well, it looks as though we've all been wasting our time. A bug report
was filed for this 78 days ago:

Debian bug report logs - #10145
who does DNS lookups!

Package: shellutils; Reported by: Richard Kettlewell
<richard@greenend.org.uk>; dated Mon, 26 May 1997
16:33:03 GMT; Maintainer for shellutils is Galen Hazelwood
<galenh@micron.net>.

Subject: who does DNS lookups!
X-Mailer: VM 6.30 under Emacs 19.34.1

Package: shellutils
Version: 1.16-1

who(1) attempts to look up machine names extracted from utmp in the
DNS. Since these are usually truncated, the result is queries on
stupid domains; see below for an extract from named.run.

This is *very wrong* for a dialup system, where a DNS lookup can bring
up the dialup link and thus cost money. There isn't even a
(documented) option to turn it off!
