Re: compiling with libc5

|"
|"OK, point taken, -smotif libg++ packagres won't be possible without
|"a libg++27-altdev. (Do I care? no, but others may, I agree).

I don't think this is true. If I run a ldd on the Motif library:

libXpm.so.4 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXpm.so.4 (0x401ca000)
libXt.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 (0x401d7000)
libXext.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXext.so.6 (0x40219000)
libX11.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so.6 (0x40224000)
libSM.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libSM.so.6 (0x402c2000)
libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x402cb000)

libXpm: is statically linked (4.7 version); 4.6 is depended on libX11.so.6
libXt: libX11.so.6, libSM.so.6, libICE.so.6
libXext: libX11.so.6
libX11: statically linked
libSM: libICE.so.6
libICE: statically linked

I have been running this setup for several days now, and have yet to
encounter any problems.

I don't know whether there have been major changes between the libc5 and
libc6 functionality, but if the functionality has not been changed (and I
don't see why it should have, other than being more strict about things, X11
is after all highly platform independent, providing its own functions if
there are subtle differences) I don't foresee many problems.

|"xmp may well posess the same features as xlib does, i.e. maybe we
|"don't need an xmp-altdev.

Xpm seems to be statically linked in its latest incarnation, so if you think
that being libc5-based is a problem, then yes, we need an xpm-altdev.

|"> Yes, but even _after_ hamm is releaed the will be many people with
|"> libc5 Motif, doing _development_.
|"
|"(Actually, I'm not aware of Motif packages needing libg++, but never
|"mind).

Depends on what's in libg++, I suppose - iostream etal ?

I hold your hand in mine, dear / I press it to my lips. I take a

if you were only here, But still I keep your hand as a precious souvenir.
