I have been running gpm and X at the same time for the last year and a
half. Never had a problem. I have used them together without
anything special and had no problems, but recently I changed to the
more elegant configuration (taken from the man pages, of course):
device=/dev/ttyS1
responsiveness=
type=msc
append="-3 -o dtr -R"
The important part is the -R. With this config, gpm creates pseudo
mouse data on /dev/gpmdata. Then I have /dev/mouse linked to
/dev/gpmdata, and I can point all other programs (X, dosemu, etc) to
/dev/mouse (configured as mouse systems).
Good Luck,
Erv
