ELF header message with modutils 2.1.34

I just upgraded to modutils 2.1.34, hoping it would correctly
analyze the dependencies of my /lib/modules/misc directory (for example);
instead depmod -a gives me 

modprobe: error reading ELF header: No such file or directory

if the misc directory (from the kernel version, ie
path[misc]=/lib/modules/`uname -r`

is included in conf.modules.

Using 2.0.30.
