To fix the broken packages add /usr/X11R6/lib to your /etc/ld.so.config
file and run ldconfig as root. You should then be able to install the
3 tex packages that break. MAKEDEV is broken on the December 1996 release.
You can download the fixed makedev package from the debian ftp site and
install it separately. (dpkg --install package_name.deb)
I put all the 'fixed' packages in a separate directory and point the
local directory to it when running dselect. This seems to work pretty
well. (You need to download the Packages.gz file which describes the
upgraded packages to make this work)
