allowing FTP access???

Dear Debian Community,

I have recently been converted from Slackware to Debian, and I love it.
I have one problem. I can not figure out how to allow FTP access into
my machine.  I can FTP to other machines and 'get' files, but I can not
FTP to my machine from another machine. I have tried as root,
anonymous, and a regular user. In Slackware, FTP access was controlled
by a file in the /etc directory. How do you control FTP access with
Debian?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
