Re: Video Cards
I have had sucess using the ViRGE chipset with X. The latest release 3.2
supports this card, and is available in the Debian packages. 3.2A is an
accelerated driver also now available, and is what I use with my ViRGE
chip. However the 3.2A servers only come in binary form (therefore no
debian packages are available yet, with good reason) and are still
somewhat unstable. The video card I have used with this is a Diamond
Stealth 2000 3D with 2 MB ram.
As far as the Matrox card goes, I would find out which one it is, and
what chipset it is using, because I have heard a few of the newer cards
aren't supported yet. You can find out more details of what is supported
at www.xfree86.org, because the 1995 howto that you had found seems
pretty old.
