VIM: filtering (Was Re: pgp)

To answer my own question: yes this can be configured: the vim variable
"shellredir" is a format for how the shell redirection (involved in the
'!' construct) is done; after adding
set shellredir=>%s
to my .vimrc, I got the old behaviour back.
