Hi. You need a boot manager program such as LILO, or you need to
boot from a MSDOS partition using loadlin (there may be more choices).
If you don't want to use DOS at all on your system, then I would
suggest using LILO. LILO must be installed from within linux. It
will overwrite your MBR (master boot record) on your hard drive. You
must configure it to know the location of a kernel image on your HD.
There must be a LILO HOWTO that you can look up.

I use loadlin.exe, a DOS program. You must boot up in DOS, so you
need a small DOS partition. However, you can put the loadlin command
in your autoexec.bat file so that linux is launched immediately. In
this case, you need a kernel image and the loadlin program together
on your DOS partition. I use loadlin because I dual boot between two
OS's (Windoze and Linux). Please check the docs and then write again
if you have questions.
