Re: Booting Linux
You need a program to start the boot process. There are two in common
use. If you run DOS, you might consider "loadlin" which starts linux
through dos. Alternately, you could install lilo, which in its standard
form replaces the disks MBR and allows you to choose what to boot.
Lilo seems to cause some people trouble (keep that bootdisk), but I have
never had any problems with it. I used to run both dos/windows and
linux, and always used lilo (well, at first, we used minix's shoelace,
but that was in the dark ages).
I believe lilo is compatible with Win95, if you install lilo after you
have installed Win95 (Win95 installation re-writes the MBR). If you use
os/2, you will probably be better off with os/2's boot manager.
