`man' can't load `ld.so', etc.
I don't understand this:
[1] ls -a /lib/ld.*
------------------------ quote -------------------------------------
-rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 20484 Oct 18 20:25 ld.so
-rwxr-xr-x 2 root root 20484 Oct 18 20:25 ld.so.1.7.10
---------------------- unquote -------------------------------------
[2] file /usr/bin/man*
-------------------------- quote -----------------------------------
man: setuid Linux/i386 demand-paged executable (QMAGIC) - stripped
mandb: setuid Linux/i386 demand-paged executable (QMAGIC) - stripped
manpath: Linux/i386 demand-paged executable (QMAGIC) - stripped
-------------------------- unquote ----------------------------------
[3] ldd /usr/bin/man*
--------------------------- quote ------------------------------------
man:
: can't load dynamic linker '/lib/ld.so nor /usr/i486-debian-linux/lib/ld.so'
mandb:
: can't load dynamic linker '/lib/ld.so nor /usr/i486-debian-linux/lib/ld.so'
manpath:
libc.so.4 (DLL Jump 4.6pl27) => /lib/libc.so.4.6.27
--------------------------- unquote ----------------------------------
Intuition is telling me that this and the fact that suddenly no-one
other than `root' can log in are more than coincidentally related.
Is there something about `man' and `mandb' that would account for
the fact that they appear to be the only programs on my system that
can't load ld.so?
Bill
