An odd thing when updating X11R6...
Actually, a couple of things:
First, when actually performing the upgrade to 3.1.2, I could have sworn I
got messages to the effect that something was trying to delete the X11R5
directory, but couldn't because there were files in it (unsurprising).
Unfortunately, I was doing a bunch of packages at once so I hadn't the
time to figure out what package was producing the message, or even write
it down -- and I can't find a reference to the X11R5 directory in any of
the files in /var/lib/dpkg/info. Did I imagine this?
Second, and less appropriate for this list -- I'm currently having trouble
posting to Usenet so I'll hope you'll excuse me -- I'm curious to know if
anyone has had any luck getting a Mach32 VLB card to drive a monitor at
1024x768 _with 16bpp_. You see, I used to think the XFMach32 server was
not capable of 16bpp at all, but 3.1.2 has changed that, but won't give me
1024x760, which is the only resolution that doesn't look silly on a 17"
monitor.
Oh, and just to get briefly back on track, the new dpkg is _worlds_
faster, though I find dselect frustrating because it _insists_ that
because I have installed the doc package, I _must_ install either emacs or
info, neither of which I have any interest in (I use a different editor's
info-reading capability) -- unfortunately, if I try to override its
selection of either/both of those packages, it then unhelpfully decides to
remove the doc package. I guess this isn't a _bug_--it's supposed to be
playing dependency watchdog, after all--but I can't seem to find the "do
as I say, or else" switch. Is there one?
