problemas con nouveau en testing

el lunes actualicé mi testing y seguí trabajando, luego apagué y por
causas que no vienen al caso recién ahora vuelvo a encender esta
computadora.
Lo primero que me llamó la atención es que no se ve por las dos
pantallas, tengo una conectada por vga (no anda ahora) y otra por hdmi
("anda" a la fabulosa resolución de 1024x768), misma placa de video.
Pensé que algo estaría mal conectado, así que apagué, revisé los cables
y nada. Reinicio en win y veo por las dos pantallas. Vuelvo a debian,
pruebo con el kernel anterior y nada
En su momento, cuando usaba los drivers de nvidia (y una sola
pantalla), tenía un xorg.conf, ahora lo había dejado en todo
automático, pero revisé eso...y no, no tengo xorg.conf, pero tal vez lo
necesite.
Ahora, hace mas de un año, venía usando los drivers nouveau sin ningún
problema; el xrandr me muestra esto:

creo que el mas nuevo es 4.2.algo. Y mi placa de video es mas bien modesta, pero sirve para el uso que le doy:
