Como bien te decía Fernando debes fijarte en la ubicación del kernel y root.

A mí me parece que estas líneas que tienes no concuerdan:

  root (hd0,4)
  kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.27-speakup root=/dev/hda1

Creo que tienes Debian (/) en /dev/hda5, ¿verdad? entonces debería 
poner /dev/hda5.

De hecho, fíjate que el Windows está en (hd0,0) que es lo equivalente 
a /dev/hda1 (y si aquí está el Windows entonces no está Debian).
