¿No tendrás deshabilitado el DMA en el setup de la BIOS, o
alguna opción establecida de forma incorrecta?

/etc/rcS.d con una prioridad alta, conteniendo lo siguiente:
hdparm -d1 /dev/hdX
sustituyendo la X por la letra correspondiente a la unidad.
Mira el manual de hdparm para más opciones. Si haces esto,
que no se te olvide darle al archivo permisos de ejecución.

De esto ni idea
La maquina culpable es un P-IV 2.4 con 512MB, tres discos duros IDE
Maxtor de 160GB (segun la bios UDMA Mode 6), y un lector de CD LG 52x.
El nucleo es la version 2.6.8 compilada para P-IV. y me da ese error

He visto que este problema con chipsets intel se solucionaba
reconfigurando el kernel y activando CONFIG_BLK_DEV_PIIX=y
Yo lo he hecho y me ignora totalmente (vamos se empeña en darme dolores
de cabeza)
¿Alguna idea? Cualquier sugerencia es bienvenida :-)
