Error compilando Sylpheed en Woody

Hola listeros;)
Tratando de instalar Sylpheed 0.9.6, al ejecutar ./configure, me tira el siguiente error:

checking for gtk-config... no
checking for GTK - version >= 1.2.6... no
*** The gtk-config script installed by GTK could not be found
*** If GTK was installed in PREFIX, make sure PREFIX/bin is in
*** your path, or set the GTK_CONFIG environment variable to the

Yo tengo instalado en /usr/lib/ gtk-2.0. Si no entiendo mal se necesita una versión mayor o igual a la 1.2.6, ¿no?
