Si, lo que sucede es que parece que apt "cachea" la informacion de los
paquetes antes de escribirlos; lo que si es cierto es que tiene por
defecto una cantidad de memoria asignada y cuando son muchos los
paquetes que tiene que leer se queda cortico.
La solucion esta en agregar la siguiente linea al archivo
/etc/apt/apt.conf:
APT::Cache-Limit 10000000;
y listo! ejecuta nuevamente "apt-get update"

Yo uso woody pero agrege a mi apt.sources el unstable tambien para poder
instalar algunas cositas.
Pero cuando di apt-get update me salio lo siguiente:
