Porque los índices están corruptos.

Prueba "mandb -c" como root para recrear los índices.
Este es un error que costó mucho encontrar (el motivo por el que los
índices se estropeaban con tanta facilidad). Afortunadamente, en Debian
2.0 este problema habrá desaparecido.
