Could you please try to:
1. upgrade the modutils package
2. mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd-2.4.3-586tsc /lib/modules/2.4.3-586tsc
3. run lilo and try to boot again

Skip step 1 when you've already upgraded your modutils.
