Hallo,
Kann ich hier Unterstützung für die Installation eines WLAN anfragen?
Ich habe einen gebrauchten DELL-Laptop mit Pentium III 700MHz Prozessor
bekommen und dafür zu Zeiten von Windows XP einen GIGASET USB Adpater 54
gekauft. XP habe ich deinstallieren müssen. Dafür habe ich jetzt die
letzte Debian-Linux Version installiert. Beim Installieren hat er weder
eine Ethernet-Karte erkannt (kein Wunder, es gab ja auch keine), aber
auch kein WLAN-Adapter. Daher hat das Installationsprogramm diesen Punkt
zwar abgefragt, Vorgaben aber nicht bestätigt und letztendlich diesen
Programm mit ein paar Warnmeldungen übersprungen. Beim Durchforsten der
Mailinglisten habe ich einiges herausgefunden, so z. B. dass ndiswrapper
eine Möglichkeit wäre, Windows-Treiber zu laden. Das Paket zd1211rw.deb
soll ebenfalls einen Treiber enthalten, der für den Adapter geeignet
ist. Ich habe etliche .conf-Files angelegt und umgeschrieben, die aber
nicht funktionieren. Letztendlich deswegen nicht, weil keine Devices
eth0, eth1, ..., wlan0, wlan1 ... gefunden wurden. Es existieren solche
Treiber auch nicht im Verzeichnis /dev und /dev/net. In /dev/net steht
nur ein Gerät namens "tun". Aus dem Manual von MAKEDEV geht hervor, das
dieses Programm keine Geräte (Devices) für Netzwerke generiert.
Fazit: solange keine Netzwerkgeräte in diesen Verzeichnissen vorhanden
sind, bekomme ich keine Verbindung. Die Treiber allein machen es nicht.
Woher bekomme ich diese Geräte? In welchem Paket sind sie versteckt?
Kann jemand mir Schritt für Schritt erklären, wie ich meine
Internet-Verbindung über den WLAN-Adapter herstelle. Für alle Fälle:
Provider ist T-online.
Weiterhin ist mir aufgefallen, dass die Maske der Netzwerkadministration
unter GNOME sich anders gestaltet, als in der Hilfe dargestellt. Die
Maske fragt nach einem Standort (Location) und einem Default Gateway
Device. In der Maske im Hilfetext ist das nicht beschrieben. Wiederum
dort ist ein "Hinzufügen"- ("Add"-)Button dargestellt, der in der Maske
der Netzwerkadministration nicht existiert. Ich betrachte die
Dokumentation hier als fehlerhaft.

can I ask for support for the WLAN installation here? I've got a used
DELL-Laptop with Pentium III 700MHz processor and bought an GIGASET USB
54 Adapter when I worked with Windows XP. I had to remove XP and
installed the last version of DEBIAN Linux. During the installation the
program recognized neither an Ethernet-card (Ok, I don't have one), nor
a WLAN Adapter.The installation program asked for that but didn't accept
any settings and at least skipped that item. When combing through the
Mailing lists I found a lot of hints, i.e. the possibility for loading
Windows drivers with ndiswrapper. The package zd1211rw.deb should also
contain a driver suitable for the adapter. I created and modified a lot
of .conf-files but they don't function. At least, because the devices
eth0, eth1, ..., wlan0, wlan1, ... were not found. Such drivers don't
exist in the directories /dev and /dev/net. In /dev/net there is only
one device called "tun".Refrring to the manual, MAKEDEV cannot generate
devices for network. Conclusion: as long assuch devices aren't in the
directories, I can't get contact access to the internet. The drivers
themselves don't do it. Where can I get the devices (for /dev)? In which
packages are they hidden? Can somebody advise me to create the internet
access over WLAN-adapter step by step? For all cases: Provider is T-online.
Further I recognized, that the mask for network administration for GNOME
differs from the illustration in the help document. The mask asks for a
location and a default gateway device, which are not described in the
help text. On the other side there is shown an "Add"-button, which does
not exist in the mask for network administration. I regard that as a
documentation fault.
