lame: Free-Form id3 genre tags

Ich habe die Nachricht schon mal für eine englische Liste geschrieben  
und bin jetzt einfach zu faul, sie nochmal auf deutsch zu schreiben...

I've archived my music using FLAC files which allows free form  
information for genre. For use on my PC and mobile player I convert  
these files using LAME. My converter simply maps the GENRE tag from  
flac to the --tg parameter of lame. This produces errors for most of  
my music.

Is there any way to allow free form id3 genre tags, e.g. by forcing a  
certain version?
