TNT2-Nvidia will nicht mit sarge 2.6 K7

nabend

habe folgendes problem und bin trotz eingehendem
studium versch. foren nicht zu einer lösung gekommen
bzw. bei mir funzen die halt nicht.

habe nen Athlon 2500 (1800) asus av600 sys mit einer
alten elsa agp erazor3 video in/out,tnt2. 
sonstiges :ne alte 878 tvkarte, ne soundblaster 128.
debian sarge mit kernel 2.6.8. K7 incl. headers und
co.

den nvidi treiber für ia32 sauber (?!?) installiert,
es gab keine fehlermeldungen bzw.er fand keine
vorkomp. sachen und hat es denn selber gemacht was
aber glatt durchlief. danach die anpassungen aus der
README durchgeführt. 

wie folgt durchgeführt:

den aktuellen treiber runtergeladen von nvidia.com
(1.0-6629)

/etc/init.d/gdm stop 

danach als root "sh
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run" ausgeführt

den anweisungen gefolgt wie gesagt und die anpassungen
an der XF86Config-4 gemacht. hab die mal angehängt...

danach "/etc/init.d/gdm start"
worauf er umschaltete und nach ein paar sekunden
piepte  aber nur nen schwarzen bildschirm, ohne
cursor, anzeigte. bei vorherigen versuchen hat er
immerhin den schirm mit so nem NVIDIA dargestellt
incl. mauspointer aber denn wars das auch, keine
weiteren reaktionen. teils hat er bei den versuchen
vorher auch mal ne fehlermeldung angezeigt vom Xserver
das er versch. module nich laden konnte. die habe ich
nun auch nicht mehr ;-| 

hatte alternativ auch mal das howto von 
http://channel.debian.de/faq/ch-confighw.html
versucht, ging aber auch nicht im endeffect.

hatte bei verschiedenen versuchen auch alle möglichen
module mit modconf deaktiviert und das modul per hand
geladen was auch nicht klappte. 

wär geil wenn jemand ne idee hätte.
