aber! :

ls: /usr/lib/apache/1.3/libphp4.so: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht 
gefunden

irgendwie fehlt ihm ja wohl dir libphp4, oder?

kann es sein, dass durch mein hin- und herkonfigurieren entsprechende 
module nicht geladen wurden? als ich den webmailer aufgesetzt habe, 
habe ich in der reihenfolge postfix - apache - squirrelmail -php 
installiert und alles lief...
