Malheureusement, je n'ai pas d'autre idée et je ne maîtrise pas trop si il 
faut fouiner.
D'après mon /etc/sane.d/snapscan.conf  il y a bien les lignes :

# Epson Perfection 1670
usb 0x04b8 0x011f

que l'on retrouve dans ta configuration.

As-tu essayé de lancer xsane sous root, pour voir ?
