pb avec initrd (2.4.23)

Bonjour,
J'utilise depuis 3 mois les noyaux 2.6.0-testxx.
$ uname -a
Linux cray 2.6.0-test11 #9 SMP Sat Nov 29 12:06:43 CET 2003 i686 GNU/Linux
Je voudrais maintenant utiliser le dernier 2.4.23
Je n'arrive pas à booter avec le noyau standard Debian (2.4.23-1-686-smp).
Visiblement un problème avec initrd. Message d'erreur (recopié à la main) :

initrd (hd0,4)/boot/initrd.img-2.4.23-1-686-smp
J'ai 2 disques SCSI:
$ mount
/dev/sda5 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/sda1 on /mnt/boot type ext2 (rw)
/dev/sda7 on /home type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/sdb2 on /mnt/ext2 type ext3 (rw)
/dev/sdb5 on /mnt/ext5 type reiserfs (rw)
/dev/sdb6 on /mnt/ext6 type reiserfs (rw)
/sys on /sys type sysfs (rw)
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw,devmode=0666)
J'imagine une incompatibilité entre les deux versions du noyau.
Une idée ?
