Can you read from the CDR from another OS? Can you swap the drive to a different system? Have you checked all cables carefully? I mention the last because I had a dead CDR (though it wasn't registering on boot either) which turned out to have a disconnected IDE cable.... Hardware troubleshooting is a process of elimination -- work out what the problem *isn't*, you're left with what it likely is. -- Karsten M.
