Interesting. I checked upstream repository and this is the case since
2009 (!!!) - and nobody complained till now.

Can you send me a minimal example please.

I don't understand - which version? You say it is broken in Jessie, but
replacing with the file present in Jessie fixes the problem, so I am a
bit surprised. It should have been since very long that this doesn't
work.
